About Bob

Robert (Bob) King is an American lawyer as well as labor union activist and leader. After many years as a union member and president of smaller unions in the American automotive industry, he was president of the United Auto Workers (UAW), one of the United States’ strongest unions, from June 2010 until his retirement in June 2014.
After decades of active engagement with the UAW, he took on leadership roles in a number of organizations, including the Lecturer’s Employee Organization, the One University Campaign, and the student-led Climate Action Movement, and is now a lecturer for Social Theory and Practice at the University of Michigan, inspiring the next generation of the movement.
King studied political science at Holy Cross College in Indiana and the University of Michigan, before completing his law degree at the University of Detroit Mercy.
